WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene)

At CARO, we believe that access to clean water and proper sanitation is not a privilege, but a basic human right. Our WASH program plays a vital role in improving the health and dignity of vulnerable communities across Afghanistan, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Through this program, we work to:

  • Build and rehabilitate water supply systems to ensure families and communities have sustainable access to safe and clean drinking water

  • Construct hygienic sanitation facilities in schools, health centers, and public spaces to reduce disease transmission and promote dignity

  • Conduct hygiene education sessions, especially for children and women, to encourage lifelong healthy habits and prevent waterborne illnesses

  • Engage communities in maintaining WASH infrastructure and promoting ownership for long-term impact

By integrating clean water access with sanitation infrastructure and hygiene education, CARO’s WASH initiatives contribute to healthier environments, reduced child mortality, and stronger, more resilient communities.
